Kirroughtree is fantastic a short hop over on the ferry from NI makes for a great day out especially if you can go during the week on the cheap fare I have been there and had the entire trail system to myself , it feels much wilder than the rest of the stanes . The trails never seem to get boring no matter how many circuits I do . Aways come back tired and happy.

Ignore the location map STW have provided – its showing the location of Glentrool, not Kirroughtree which is miles away.

The 7 stanes in this area are much better than the overcrowded trails in the Tweed valley. Kirroughtree has to be one of the finest trail centres in the country. McMoab makes for a welcome distraction to the usual stanes trails. Great fun counting the dabs.

We rode Kirroughtree the on the 3rd May 2011 a school day so we had the whole place to ourselves . Without shadow of doubt the best route was the red . It had everything . McMoad unless youre a trick trials rider is impossible but still tried to ride it and fell off. To me this is better than Glentrees red route with the red route at Dalbeatie being a close second .
