The Highline II is Sombrio’s top of the range short. It’s designed from four-way stretch material and comes complete with an inner short. Small ventilation holes are located on the inner thigh and rear hip panels. Two zipped side pockets and a rear zipped waistband pocket provide some storage if needed.

The cut of the short is midway between slim and baggy, and sizing is fairly accurate although velcro waist adjusters allow for a fair bit of fine tuning to get a good secure fit when on the bike. A zipped fly and velcro-supported popper keep everything locked down in use.

Despite the light feel of the fabric, the vents and the fairly loose cut of the legs, I found this short rode hot especially in the height of summer, although unzipping the pockets to allow some air flow helped in cooling things down. For more typical spring and autumn conditions though, I expect they’ll be fine.

A mesh fabric and synthetic chamois inner is included in the price and is comfortable in use, with subtle locating tabs on the inside of the outer short keeping them in place when riding. On the bike fit was good and secure with no movement up or down and the leg cut is generous enough to accommodate knee pads without being overly baggy.

Overall: A pricey but comfortable pair of shorts, ideal for three-season wear with a bit of summer fine tuning.
