This has presumably been done to death, so apologies.

It’s time to replace my rear mech – just wondering if anyone has an opinion on non – clutch XT medium cage, versus Zee short cage with clutch, which can be had for £4 extra on CRC.

Will a short cage be alright with a 36t cassette and single ring? Does the clutchy bit actually make any difference – chain retention isn’t really an issue for me, as I have a full chain device anyway. Any perceptible difference in quality/ longevity/ weight etc?

    Cheers all.

yes. as long as you by the Zee mech for wide rang, they do two models i got mine from Rose for £46 though they now are out of stock

    see http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/product/detail/aid:591957

see it says max sprocket size of 36t and a total capacity of 25t, which is oddly the tooth difference on an 11-36 cassette…. so ideal for a 1×10 setup

all the information is already out there..

Ha. Cheers. I’m clearly rubbish at using searches, but I promise I did try…
