So we ALL have a 26″, 650b, 29″ and a cross bike in the shed and you going to be doing the SPAM BLAST a 100km loop aorund Salisbury Plain with a far bit of climbing!

So what bike would you dig out of the shed do ride for the event?

Me I would go for 650b, think it best of all worlds, I think a cross bike will be a bit of a back breaker and high punture risk over that distance.

If I do it it be a 26″ as that all I got. 😀

That is true, but I still stick with 650b, and simi slick tyres if I had a choice. 😈

What if the 650b bike has 7″ of travel, whilst the 29er is a 20lb carbon hardtail?

More to bikes than wheel size, a stupid question 🙄

If they were all the same bike (save for the cross bike), say a Scott Scale, I’d take the 29er.

    What’s your objective?

To win? – go for the fastest/lightest bike – the biggest factor for speed on a mtb is weight. Simples.

If it’s to enjoy the race, no matter how you do – just pick the most fun, over 100km you’re not going to notice a shed load of difference in terms of speed really – and would you rather win, be battered and not enjoy the riding – or not win and really enjoy the riding?

Its all up to you…. 😉

Like Njee said, wheel size is just a factor.

It’s not a ‘race’ – on open tracks!

Having done an 100k offroad sportive with 1×9, I would make sure whatever it is has a full compliment of gears. I would have loved a granny ring..

I’d go 29er and something wiv 100mm up front and 80-100mm suss on t’rear..

Then make sure my food and water is well catered for.

    Then..

    Ride hard, of course.

29er. Weapon of choice for most things.
