  • Your Preferred 1X9 Chain Line?

    Hi,

Im dabbling with 1×9, where does everyone aim to put their chain line at?

My chain line at the moment is 50mm. This puts my chain line straight in 6th gear. So my chain line is biased towards the hard end of my cassette.

5th gear would be balanced top and low. 4th would be biased to low.

Should the chain line be biased to where you spend most of your time?

    Or

Where there is most force acting on the chain?

I expect during my riding routine im applying most force to the drive in the hard end of my cassette, when im standing up, mashing the pedals.

I think im applying less force in the easier gears, as this is when im sitting down spinning. This is also where most teeth are meshing with the sprockets, spreading the load.

    What are peoples thoughts?

I admire how much thought you’ve put into this 🙂
I’d just put the single chainring on the outside of the cranks (if using without a bashguard), or on the inside if with … as it looks best that way!

Aren’t you putting a roughly equal amount of force into each gear (unless you’ve got bad habits like grinding uphill in a too-high gear)
