Do you have any specific goals? No matter how small or great, or even if it is just to ‘have fun on a bike’, what are they?

    Mine are:

    1. To topple certain people from their lead position on my Strava segments
    2. To beat molgrips on technical, rocky climbs (I suck at mountain biking)
    3. To join a club and keep riding until I’m very old

    2. BPW with my 9 year old son (24th July)
    3. Get kicked out of C cat on Zwift in a 50mins+ race

    Keep enjoying it
    Ride all my bikes frequently
Ride at least 6000 miles a year but beat the previous years total if possible

Keep enjoying it….as long and with whatever means

Cycle with junior and get an ebike when I have to in order to keep up

Die at 70 in a instantly fatal crash doing what I love.. (I plan to revise this in my late 60’s) which is less than 2 decades away 😀 but just a placeholder for now.

Better results. I know its not trendy but I ride to race and that’s primarily what motivates me.

    More specifically:
    1) Better race management for xc races. This year (in the regional races) I’ve had decent starts been at the pointy end for 1-2 laps and then faded. Last race I deliberately paced myself but fell victim to the 33-35 deg heat. One more race in the series, hope I can hold on longer!

    2) more top 10’s in our leagues cx races (managed 1 last year). However I’m nowhere near as fit as i was last year so its probably unlikely.

I sometimes score a goal when I take a short cut across the rugby pitch on my way home from the pub.

This will be the third year that I’ve tried to ride 3000 miles – I missed it by around 100 miles last year and determined to do it this year.
I’m bang on target having ridden 1650 miles so far this year.

I’m riding from London to Amsterdam next May, which should keep me keen over the winter/spring.

Longer term I’d love to do a big (2-3 week) ride somewhere, but not going to happen at the moment with 2 kids/full time job/etc.

After a big off a couple of weeks ago which involved dislocating & fracturing my elbow… to ride a bike again this year!

    1. Get in the top third of the old blokes 12 hour solo at 24/12 (next year, working this year unfortunately).
    2. Go cycle touring more with the kids (new tent bought this week and 11 yo daughter is now conducting logistical planning, can’t wait although her legs do appear to be powered by constant inane chatter).

    A) remain in the Eastern League top 20 until the end (3 more rounds)

    B) finish next weeks Scott Marathon sub 3:50 (mind / race management)

    C) actually complete 12hrs in the pivot 24/12 12h solo (injury management)

    D) look forward to all that comes learned with being coached for 2018 from October

Complete 100-miler in under 5 hours.
    200km in one ride
    5000m climbing in one ride

Those should be ticked off this summer

More quality (i.e. not commuting) miles.

I doubt I’m going to hit my 3000km target this year either (not with that attitude anyway…)

    1. Finish a 100 mile road ride
    2. Get out on the mountain bike more
    3. Ride 6000 miles in the year ( currently on 2700 or so )

Got a few goals in mind, but all medium term.
I primarily get myself fit to get the most out of holidays in the mountains, but combined with a competitive streak, this opens up opportunities for me to have some adventurous goals.

    So, in no particular order.
    1) Go back to Solo Relentless 24, but not just to finish, aiming for a top 25%. Was sitting top 3rd in 2015 before my wrists packed in.
    2) LEL/PBP. Going long appeals, despite not really being built for it.
    3) Gold standard at La Marmotte – probably the most realistic target, couldn’t design a course better suited to me.

As a partially riding goal, i’ve a growing itch for an Ironman that may need scratching before too much longer.

    1. Beat last year’s total of 3,998 km – hadn’t really been tracking it until the end of the year and then was annoyed I missed 4k km by that little 😀 . However, I got ill in March/April/May this year and had probably 5-6 weeks off the bike so this may be ambitious; hence goal 2.

    2. Do more months this year where I ride more than last year. Currently at 4-2 down due to the spring debacle and September is a write-off as we’re on hols for 3 weeks, so will be tight!

    1. Ride new places
    2. Scare myself at least once per ride
    3. Keep up with my mate, Andy. I feel like I’m getting closer every year.

    This year:

    Ride 3500 miles.
Do the SDW in a day.
    Stay injury-free.

Also trying to do new types of rides and events. The last 2 years I’ve done a few events I’ve wanted to do for a while now, even did my first DH race in over a decade yesterday! Anything to get me out of the habit of just riding the same areas and loops as I have done for the last 5 or so years really.

    Currently mainly bmx related.
    1. Nosepick and tooth pick.
    2. Decent air.
    Non bmx
    3. Enter a xc race, wanted to do ssuk this year but too far away.
    4. Enter an enduro. I think my calendar clashes with all the southern ones so will probably miss this one.

Both the races are to get a idea of other peoples riding tbh. I know I am not particularly fit ATM or fast in general but it’s good to see how others ride to learn from their technics.

    2017 goals are currently:
    1. Quality for Zwift A Cat (4.0w/kg ftp)
    2. Nab a Cat 4 point
    3. Finish top 10 in a bonefide KISS EU Zwift race

I may stick my nose into a CX race and see where I’m placing nowadays. It would be quite cool to get MTB, Road and CX ranking points all in the same year.

    2 goals for this year:

    1) Get enough top placings in open hill climb events to qualify for the 2018 nationals.
    2) Top 20 at Catford.

    1) Be quick enough to race in regional vets, before i’m too old for it.
So the sub-goals for this are to be able to lap the QECP red, min 3 laps, at sub 30mins per lap (by some margin). Currently a few seconds over for 1 flying lap, so some work to do.
    2) Still haven’t done a SDW in a day. So needs doing.
    3) I have neglected skills for a bit, so need to improve jumps and drops.

Blimey these are all a bit much for me. Mine go like this.

1: Ride more, which considering I have done the square route of bugger all riding in the last 12 months shouldn’t be too hard.

    – South Downs Double
    – raid dolomites (with any luck as a 40th birthday present)
    – LEL/PBP or similar when I am old, and have free time

One of those is even likely to involve riding off road!

    1) have more fun on the bike
    2) ride some new places
    3) get some confidence back (which I seem to have lost for no reason)
    4) spend some time practising things that I take for granted (bunnyhops, trackstands and general control) to help with points 1 and 3

I’ve achieved pretty much all I ever set out to do (that was in any way realistic, ‘cos at 9 I said I’d win the TdF!) but over the next 6 months before I pack in racing I have the following:

Win my final MTB race. Might be a stretch as I’m not race-fit at the mo.
Finish top 10 overall in the upcoming National Trophy CX series.
Top 10 at the National CX champs next Jan.

That’s in vets of course, not Elite!

    Cragg Vale sub 30 minutes

Do this in less than 4 hours and raise £2k in the process.

    Actually ride my MTB more.
