    I have a 4 year old XT front mech. Will that work OK with my new 10 speed XT crank set? Or do I have to get a 10 speed specific front mech, before I cannibalize my old bike.

    It will work fine, might need some slightly finer adjustment as the chain is ever so slightly narrower but it will work.
