    always had shimano hollowtec so not too sure on the sram x9, is it just the 8mm centre bolt on the non drive side or has the 16mm bolt got to be removed first

    Just the 8mm, it’ll press against the bigger one and self extract.

    Done bit of digging, 16mm is a cap holding the 8mm crank bolt captive, when you undo 8 mm it pushes against 16mm cap to remove crank arm. Only need to touch 16mm cap if it comes loose after crank removal.
