I need something simple with a good camera , good battery life and fairly robust for not a lot of money. Pref unlocked or on O2. WHY ?

simple means not smartphone then?
I have a "waterproof" nokia - can't remember the model number but it was good, camera ok, not great.
or a tmobile pulse (unlocked) on android..
