just thought i would share that.

been trying to fit some 700/40 tyres on em for 5 hours.

took 130psi on a 70 psi rated tyre to seat them.

how the **** would you do this out riding.

arent laserdiscs 27mm bead width? bit of a challenge for a 40mm carcass tyre isnt it?

I should think it would be a bit tough to fit a 40 tyre!

the tyre went on the rim easy, just used my fingers.
it would not seat correctly.

I think the point is the tyre is too narrow to seat on such a wide rim. Getting the tyre on the rim wouldn’t be the issue, as you found out

the failure to seat is because of the width problems IMO.

When you inflate the inner, its forcing the carcass away from the rim at the same time as supposeduly forcing the beads to hook. WIth a narrow carcass there’s just not enough circumference available to link bead hook to bead hook in a circular cross section.

you found a tyre thats extremely reluctant to be where you want it and wonder whether its going to stay there? 🙂

rim is not 27mm, it is just over 20mm.
the tyre looks fine on the rim, not too narrow for it.
it was just 1 small section that would not seat.

i will see how it goes on.

A tyre not seating is normally down to the bead on the tyre being mis-formed (damaged wire bead, incomplete rubber coverage, etc…) or the rim having a big ding / flat spot in it.

If the rim is 20mm a 40c should be fine, 27mm and not so great.

Conti are normally pretty good construction wise….leads me to think that its a little narrow for the rim.

I have run a 40c schwalbe / 42c Conti on a 23.6mm rim (DT Swiss TK7.1) with no issues.
