  • Wrong rear mech? Currently top-pull, can I used a side-pull?

Quick question – currently have an SLX rear mech that pulls from the top and have (on impulse) bought one used that looks like it is probably designed for side-pull. Can I use it do you think?

And yes, I do mean Rear mech, not front.

    Thanks.

WTF!? All rear mechs pull the same. Unless you mean low-normal (cable pulls mech down to small sprockets) or top-normal (more common, cable pulls mech to bigger sprockets).

Either way, as long as you have a Shimano shifter it'll definitely work, the function may just be reversed.

There is no such thing as side-pull or top-pull on rear mechs.

shadow mechs have the cable entering nearer the top if that's what you mean.

If you want to use a standard mech you may need a longer gear cable and a bit of new outer to make a smooth run into the mech.
