    Yay!

His replacement in Silence-Lotto’s Tour team, Charly Wegelius, is a proven, reliable big race rider, with nine Grand Tours under his belt. His role in the Liquigas squad, where he rode for four seasons, was akin to the job he needs to do for Evans in France this month.

Good news for Cadel Evans – can’t believe that Lotto didn’t include him originally…

It was the best of circumstances – another druggie gets dropped.

Gawd blimey, the race hasn’t even started, and they’re already being kicked out!!

    When will they ever learn?

has the decision been made as to whether Boonen can ride yet? Should be sometime today.

    Don’t know, London-Lady.

I’d like Boonen and Cav to go head to head on some flat finishes. Bonnen’s no good in the mountains, though, whereas Cav has improved that, as shown in Milan-San Remo.

Good for Wegelius, though it is frustrating that he had to come in as a sub – he’s good enough IMO to be riding the Tour anyway. His Giro ride shows that.

Best circumstances would be that there are no druggies to spoil the sport.

L’Equipe reckons another 4 to 7 doping cases will be announced before the TdeF.

the druggies are in almost sports and allowed to happen in some countries. Spain is a great example of drugs supported by the state, almost all there major sports stars are suspect.

Boonen no good in the mountains? in what way would you expect either Boonen or Cavendish to be good in the mountains? Boonen got to Paris with Green jersey so he can’t be so crap.To say Cav is better on the evidence of milan san remo is complete nonesense Why? san remo is one day not 21 also you can’t compare the cipressa with climbs such as the tourmalet etc. Cav is a far better climber than 2 years ago and hopefully will get to Paris.

id bet boonen would beat cav to the green if he was racing. cav needs to finish the race , then think about winning the green.

Cav still is only 24 its a couple of years too early for him to be taking Green, see what Cippo is saying about Cav being over-raced at the moment.

It’s all academic anyway. The greatest racer in the world is going to win.

No he isn’t, it’s the rider with the best doctor. 🙂

Why are we so pleased that Charly Wegelius is racing? Is it because he’s a brit who would rather ride for Italy even when wearing British colours?

I’d ride for Italy if they were paying my wages too! It’s a proffessional sport and he chose to further his career rather than help out a team who weren’t going to do anything anyway. Good luck to him.

Indeed… IIRC he has actually apologised for it and he paid the price in not being selected to ride for GB after.

Except that British Cycling paid him to compete in that race and he choose to ride for his mates cause they paid him, very, very poor thing to do IMO. If he didnt want to ride for his team leader he didnt have to enter.
