Middle aged fellow on a FS mtb riding down the middle of the left lane of a busy road without any hands on the bars, in fact his arms were folded. Road runs alongside hundreds of acres of common land (nice bomb holes etc). So why if he is so gnarly was he not off road, and how empty are his shorts that he needs to show he can ride non-handed to the sunday drive crew? I can see why some non-riders thinks cyclists are idiots, this one definitely was!

ps sorry for the vent, just really annoyed me!

But riding no handed is fun, especially round corners.

Some times you just have to txt your m8s. Even if you’re on your bike.

We followed a gent riding no handed the other day (in the car). I commented ‘what a ****, pointless’. Ms njee20 (non-cyclist) said ‘it’s impressive though’.

So… Maybe it has the desired effect

I suspect Like virtually everyone on here I can also do it, but as it’s completely pointless I don’t, unless I’m taking off or putting on clothing, or winning a race…

pp I can ride for miles too…. But I don’t because it makes me look like a pen1s. Especially on the road…. Hit one tiny bump and you will get a bottom to ground interface no matter how good you think you are. No handed riders are the Coldplay of the mtb world.

Pointless? No it’s not. It makes one look like a penis apparently.
That doesn’t bother me. I look like one anyway.

Crashing on one bump? Nope. I can ride off kerbs no handed, round corners, and on gravel. I’m just really really really good at it.

It’s not often I can blow my own trumpet, I’m not a particularly skilful rider, but by fek I’m awesome no handed.
Just give me this one little thing eh? 😉

    Indeed. 🙂
I know people that can’t even ride ONE handed and won’t take a hand off to get a drink. Seriously.
    Poor buggers.

Forget about no handed, I once saw a fella that could cycle on only his rear wheel for several metres!

    Stretching, relaxing, admiring the view?

Surely hanging onto the handlebars is the cycling equivalent of motoring’s 10-2?

Op, seriously if that is the worst thing you have seen, although I grant is a bit daft…

Just one example but wrong way up a 40mph dual carriageway in dark clothes in the dark and rain with no lights round a blind corner into oncoming traffic at rush hour on a bike.

Now that is proper stupid but on a par with the behaviour of about a dozen cars I see each day for idiocy and I regularly see worse than that from the sardine cans.

Used to ride no-handed back from school. Around various corners, up and down pavements (I know), over various sleeping policemen (Remember them). Taught me a huge amount about using your hips (ooh matron) and weight distribution to control and corner a bike. And about how to get your backside off the saddle when you hit a bump/sleeping policeman. Nowadays still enjoy no handed over the weird speed rhombuses that litter our roads..

As said above, there’s way more daft that’s done on a bike, though in fairness I’d never remove the hands from the bars in heavy traffic and I’d give my kids a right crollocking where I ever to see them trying to ride in that way 😉

Cruising down a hill no handed with arms outstretched feels like flying. Well how I’d imagine flying would feel like anyway.

    Meh,daft tw**s cycling,here’s two examples I saw last week
    A) Driving home down the A580 dual carriageway 60 mph limit approx 10 pm,what’s heading towards me? Yup Kamikaze cyclist cycling the wrong way down a dual carriageway at night & there’s a recently renovated cycle path running parallel to the road…
    B) Driving a 44 ton artic past Blackpool airport.Lights on red,we’re all stopped, lights change to green get going & what emerges from the road on the left? Yup kamikaze bint on a bike, how she didn’t end up under the trailer I don’t know,I think she bounced off the side rails.
That said, they both had their hands on the bars..

No hands for stretching the old back or warming them hands up when you’ve been caught out. Or even putting on a jacket, but never in a group.

Also good for warming hands. If you can get all the way from the off-roady bit to the pub with you hands off the bars you get bonus points!
