We did a headcount when we pulled into Cliffords Tower and came up with 78 + our police escort, who after the ride said it went well and seemed fun, dispelling their pre-conceptions. The ride was a mix of riders obviously, but we had a sizeable contingent of students from York Uni, and one from York St Johns. and of course, probably a few STW riders who aren’t going to admit publicly they were on it for fear of ridicule here 🙂
Did you see the guy on the cross trainer thingy? It made a loud swooshing noise in action as he went down the street. Looked fun.
There was the odd wobbly rider, and I think we lost one at the first corner setting off from the start, who wobbled and fell into the nettles and gave up. Apparently the rider hadn’t ridden in a very, very long time.
I don’t think we were being offensive in town, because there were groups of women (hen nights?) in cowboy outfits clutching giant pink inflatable dildos and interfering with the police in the middle of the road, waving them at everyone in sight, etc. I may have two clips of these ‘gangs’ of ‘feral’ women on my camera.
All in, I think it went down well with the public over the Jubilee weekend. And as an afterthought, I realise it gave republicans a chance to bare their arse at royalists on the street in a legal manner. But of course, within the rules.
