when wearing a formal shirt for work with a jumper, should the collars of the shirt be tucked in or out? no tie is being worn at the time if that makes a difference.

One tip in, one out.

depends on the neckline of said jumper I'd say.
V neck, collars out, round neck collars in...

Anyway, 'in'... unless you're a dandy.

Always in, a shirt collar could have someone's eye out which would lead to widespread banning.

Your Mum made you wear that Christmas present in then?

Wearing jumpers to work is great 'cos you don't need to iron your shirt.

if you tuck them in, within about ten minutes they'll have popped out anyway.

The same could be said for your nads

Or your DDs.

Is it the same for a nice tank top?

Staple the lapels to the jumper neck line or your neck to stop them "popping out"
My collars have lace trim.
I wear mine out with pride.
I am a dandy.

I thought all STW'ers wore shirts that were buttoned down with a slightly see through finish to a cheap white shirt?

warton has the answer

Disagree with Warton - always in.
Mainly because otherwise, you'll end up looking like this:

(There is an argument to suggest that, if not wearing a tie, you should go for a button down collar, though I find those shirts too casual for work - breast pockets and the like. Naturally, unless American, one never wears a tie with a button down collar....)

Round collar in:

V Neck Collar out:

See, i'd have probably said collars out all the time before posting this but obviously i'd have been wrong all the time as I only have round neck jumpers! Just another fashion faux pas from me then...

Never trust the judgement of someone who thinks it's ok to wear a jumper over a shirt with the tails out!!! WTF!!!

Yeh, you lot piss about all you like - I'm waiting for Houns and the ripper before I decide !

Formal Shirt and a Jumper? Doesn't that negate the formal part of the shirt?
Wear a vest under the shirt if you're chilly.Posted 4 months ago # -
who cares it negates the need to iron the shirt so it is a win for me

(1) A formal shirt should never be worn with a jumper
(2) A less formal shirt which could be worn with a jumper would be a button-down/Brooks Brothers shirt

button-down/Brooks Brothers shirt
Oooohh nooooo.
I'd suspect the closest to having to deal with this (for most STW-ers) would be a shumper bought for them
In which case, it doesn't matter as anything is better than the knackered Howies t-shirt they have worn for the last 8 years!

(3) Only Soldiers, Firemen and Policemen should wear a jumper for work
