In a previous job, one of the staff was spanish catholic, and came fully equipped with about 40 different names. The boss decided that rather than ask which ones she used, she’d just choose the first and last ones, and ordered namebadges etc. Maria arrived and said “But that’s not my name”. “Well it’s one of your names, and I’ve printed the badges now and sent out the introduction emails so that’s what we’re going to call you.”
Reminds me of when a Greek lad joined our police force.
Insp – ‘What’s your name son?’
‘something rather long and very greek sounding‘
Insp – “What?’
‘something rather long and very greek sounding‘
Insp – ‘I’ll never remember that, I’ll just call you Stavros’
One of several incidents that resulted in his demotion.
