    I am looking to buy some winter biking shoes. I have found the Shimano Gore-tex road boots much cheaper than the mountain bike version. I imagine they will be stiffer, but other than that are there any differences in the road vs MTB model which would mean that I shouldn't buy the road version for mountain biking? Thanks!

    Winter = mud

    Road shoes have no tread!

    the soles on the road version won't have much of a tread (if any).

    Hmm the cleat bolt holes are a different pattern. You wont be able to get Mtb cleats to fit.

    Thanks for the advice- looks like I'll be paying the extra for the MTB version then!

    Or buy some road pedals and learn to mud-skate!
