My ancient De Marchi Windstopper headband seemed super noisy the only time I’ve used it this winter (into a headwind) and I wondered if the membrane had delaminated or something.

I bought a Sealskinz skullcap and it seems just as bad.

Is this an inherent problem? I find it really annoying and makes conversations a PITA.

Just got an Endura skull cap. Seems ok to me but I am a bit mutton to start with.
