I’m thinking of buying a new desktop PC. It comes with Windows 7 Home Premium installed but I can upgrade to Professional for around £40.

I simply want to run my software applications (Office 2007, Studio MX etc.), do a bit of browsing and email and play a few games. Home Premium sounds what I need but I’m a bit suprised that the XP compatibility mode only becomes available from Professional upwards (I have a far amount of oldish software I want to still use); I would have thought that it would be a standard feature.

So, am I likely to need Professional and its XP compaitibility modes, is there anything else that comes with the Professional Edition that I’m likely to need for home use, or will Home Premium do me (I believe you can buy upgrade packs, as with Vista, at a later date)?
