I’ve been marshalling on a charity bike ride today and lots of the participants referred to a “back wind”. I’ve always used the tern “tail wind”. Is it a regional thing? This was in the flatlands of Lincolnshire, near Boston – we may not have hills, but by gum do we have “character building” winds.

very windy yesterday when i was out on my… ahem…road ride. They also called it a back wind. East Midlands

The wind can “back”when it changes direction, but I’ve never heard of back wind only tail wind! Strange lot in those flatlands…

This is why the rest of us refer to Lincolnshire-ites and the east midlanders as ‘No Tails’

As a former Fen dweller, and now living at altitude near Derby, I have never heard of a back wind, only a tail wind.

Up North we only have head winds. The stronger the better 😡
