  • Whyte 809 or Boardman HT Pro?

    Having having my Rock Lobster pinched, it looks like I’ll be getting £1000 as an insurance payout.
    I’m after an hardtail trail/race bike. Must have SRAM gearing (got an allergy to Shimano!).

    It seems the above two meet the spec I require.
    It’s unlikely I’ll be able to have a good test ride on either, so would like a 2nd view on both of them.
    The Boardman is £200 cheaper, and looks as good spec, albeit with 9 rear gears. That isnt a problem, I’m unlikely to use 7, never mind 10.
    The Whyte, well, I’m getting a feeling that I’m paying for a ‘name’.

    So, what should I aim for?

    I’ve got the Boardman FS Pro and I love it. great balance and all the other ride characteristics that I want. and you can’t moan about the spec. I’d definitely recommend the HT Pro – in fact I have in the past and he loves it.

    No idea about the Whyte sorry.

    This might be a very good value alternative;

    In my defence, I wouldn’t have posted it if I didn’t agree… 🙂
