    Context???
early 1930’s pre war, looked a bit funny, they had German heritage and it’s what the Germans were doing.

Is it really a story or just dredging up something from 85 years ago where only one of the people in the pic is still alive and was a young child at the time.

Yes, context, just like the recent prince Philip furore, I would like a little more information.

A palace source said: “Most people will see these pictures in their proper context and time. This is a family playing and momentarily referencing a gesture many would have seen from contemporary newsreels. No one at that time had any sense how it would evolve. To imply anything else is misleading and dishonest.

“The Queen is around six years of age at the time and entirely innocent of attaching any meaning to these gestures. The Queen and her family’s service and dedication to the welfare of this nation during the war, and the 63 years the Queen has spent building relations between nations and peoples, speaks for itself.”

Think that should wrap it all up then?

Complete non story for anyone with a brain and/or a life.

Yes, it’s wrong, but who hasn’t done something stupid with their kids. Bare in mind this is pre-war, no one could have seen the full horrors to come.

I think there could be more to it than harmless fun but none of it can be put on a 6 year olds shoulders.

    edit..

I’m also more disappointed that the Daily Mash haven’t got something up on it yet. Maybe they thought it was impossible to send up.

Because at that time the Nazis were the legitimate government in Germany and we had diplomatic relations with them and they were not recognised for what they were or were about to come ?
The real question is “why is a frankly evil and unpleasant rag trying to make an issue of this now?”

Quite. As a 14 yo skinheaded snot nosed punk rocker I deliberately threw nazi salutes (at passing army trucks, bus drivers, etc) for shock value (or just because I was 14 I suppose).

I’ve done loads as a kid playing war games with mates. I’m definitely no nazi sympathiser. The problem with this kind of journalism (if you can call it that), apart from the theft of someones private and personal property, is that the context is not communicated with the content. People didn’t know what Nazi’s were about pre WW2 and there were probably a lot of Nazi sympathisers around just as there were Communists. At that time it was just another idealistic political movement. However at that time people accepted the Nazi’s, socialised with them, invited them over to the UK, tried to do business and work with them. they were considered our friends and allies. Applying modern day values to historical events just creates the incorrect context of the times. For all we know they were probably taking the piss of the funny German salute. Anyway why let facts get in the way of a good story.

Thanks to The Sun, I’m now terrified of Mo Farah going on to commit mass genocide.

Just shows the Sun up as a totally moronic, opportunistic rag – sooner old Rupert pops his clogs the better, I say
