Q. What benefit does an app bring that a well designed mobile website does not?
I spend quite a bit of my day answering that question for clients, the main reasons to build an app rather than just making a website work properly on mobile are:
– works offline with no connectivity
– utilises hardware on the phone not readily available in the browser
– an app should perform faster for any significant computational stuff
– You can integrate your app better with other apps or services on the phone (or push notifications) than just using a browser.
For a booking or results function you will need connectivity. It isn’t computationally complex. Doesn’t use any special hardware/sensors. So unless it’s about integration I’m not seeing it…
if the problem is their website is crap in mobile it’s much simpler to fix that building and maintaining mobile apps.
