The story is I stuck some superstar rim rape on my light bike carbon front rim, couldn’t get them to seal so stuck a tube in for a couple of weeks.

Now I’ve had a puncture so thought I’d take this chance to fix them so ripped off the old tape, cleaned the rims but now new tape won’t stick to the rims.

Do I need to roughen them up a bit with wire wool or something?

what did you clean the rims with? ANy oil residue (such as meths or wd40) wont help.

Stans video on fitting tubeless tape is v good, and suggests using green scourer on the rim.

a bit of grease lurking on there? I’d get the wire wool on it!

I had I issues with stans tape on superstar carbon rims, absolutely useless, used 25mm gorilla tape at £2.99 a roll, wrapped around twice and it was spot on. Wouldn’t use anything else now.

Gorilla Tape is perfect. Good enough for pro mechanics as well.
