Clothes = no smell
Sweat = no real smell unless it's had time to mature.
Water = no smell

So why does everything smell when you come in after being caught in the rain?

Bacteria in your clothes that don't get killed off by your modern cold washes IME. Wash them on hot (60+) once in a while and they don't get smelly/stop smelling even with further wetness. Your sweat gets weeks to mature in your Tshirt if it's not killed in the mean time, and the smell only really gets dispersed once water starts evapourating off you.

I love my synthetics. Most of my gear would melt at 60 degrees.

Synths generally cope with higher temps, its natural fibres that shrink with high temps. For example my microfibre car buffing mits are recommended to wash 90. Though of course you should check your labels 😀
