    So they make steerers out of carbon and aluminium, Which are both relitavley soft materials. Yet steel steerers are still as hard as nails. Why?

    The steel in question is not that much harder.

    CrMo steel’s pretty hard, compared to aluminium or carbon, even with the simple “does it take ages to cut with hack saw” test can tell theres a difference!

    Ok its not tool grade, but then its much less brittle.

    Because softness doesnt have much to do with strength in this application

    Alu steeres are softer but MUCH thicker to maintain adequate strength
