  • Why are prolonged strong winds depressing?

The wind in Manchester has dropped finally and I must say I feel much brighter as a result. I read that prolonged high winds such as the Mistral in southern France and the Scirocco in italy have been linked to increased suicide rates. How and why does (meteorological) wind affect us mentally and physically or is it baloney?

Perhaps it’s the constant noise generated by the wind. In a past career I was stressed to the point of a breakdown by incessant piped music at my place of work.

Dunno why, but I find that strong winds put me in a really bad mood and stress me out.

I was deeply shocked and saddened by the sight of this feral bin wreacking havoc in a high street:

Then I realised it was in Scotland so I’m reassured by the fact it coon’t happen here. 🙂

It is odd that – I love a good strong wind howling around the house.
