Anyone mentioned Gary Moore - Parisian Walkways, or anything by him cos all have ace guitar solo's..
while we are on the subject-- recommend me a blistering yet soulful guitar solo
The Damned 'Smash It Up'
eh? great song(s) yes, but blistering soulful guitar solo?
ahhh... think 'Smash it up' part 1... the just the guitar and bass playing together to begin with, later joined by the drums...
Part 2 kicks in when Mr. Vanian screams 'smash it up!'
Sympathy for the devil, the live version from get your ya ya's out. Too many by Neil Young but the Weld album is a good place to start as I think he's better when he's live. Marc Ford when he was with the Black Crowes. Pretty much anything from the second album but Wiser Time from Amorica is my favourite. Can't beat a bit of slide.
Cream (Eric Clapton) - Crossroads
Santana - Samba Par Ti
Stevie Ray Vaughn - Pride and Joy
UFO - 'Love to Love' from Strangers in the Night
Anything by Zakk Wylde/Black Label Society
Van Halen - 'I'm the one' from the first album - supposedly Eddie throwing the whole kitchen sink into one solo
glenp - totally agree about srv's Little Wing - I get shivers!
nick1c/manitou - didn't know the Allman Brothers covered the classic Stormy Monday. A link to it at all please?
Allman Brothers - In Memory of Elizabeth Reed from the Filmore Concerts cd.
People have already mentioned them but Sorrow and Comfortably Numb from Delicate Sound of Thunder are stunning.
Also, for sheer mind-blowingness Stevie Ray Vaughan - Rude Mood.
Pretty much anything played by Randy Rhoads but in particular from the live Tribute album: Mister Crowley; Children of the Grave; Revelation (Mother Earth)
Metallica: Fade to Black; Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Eagles: Hotel California
Iron Maiden: Powerslave
Pantera: Cemetary Gates
Wishbone Ash "Throw down the sword" from Argus
One off the first albums I bought!
Believer by Viva Voce. I never knew women could play the guitar The album version's a little bit tame but live it's phenomenal, like Buddy Guy turned up to 11.
Loads of great songs on here. I would also add a couple that spring to mind:
Pink Floyd - coming back to life
Slightly left field but Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush - I love Andy Fairweather Lowe's guitar solo at the end. Simple, melodic, understated but gorgeous.
Stormy Monday is from: The Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore East (also check out the tracks on Eat A Peach from the same concerts)
