Need to buy a new sleeping bag. It'll be used from the end of April / start of May through to maybe October at the latest. Figure that means it needs to be comfortable down to 5 degrees or so. I've got a lightweight down one already, and want to get hold of a light synthetic which doesn't mind if it gets a bit damp.

I've narrowed it down to either a snug pack one or a highlander job. Anyone had any experience of the following? Needs to be 1kg max with the cheaper the better… at the moment i'm leaning towards the highlander but can't find any reviews.

Particularly interested if the temp ratings are vaguely accurate – i've heard that he highlander ones are but the snugpack ones are optimistic. I'll be using it in an army gortex bivi bag for ultralightweight hiking trips.

if you go on the alpkit website i think they do a four seasons one in permaloft pretty dang cheap

Don't want a down bag – it might get wet and then it won't work… (I also already have a down bag which is fine).

Bump – anyone tried any of the bags I listed?

I have a North Face Flight Series bag here, great lightweight bag and pretty warm, used it for bivving in the Alps so plenty warm enough.

I have the Merlin 3 and will be bivvying in it from now til next winter. It packs down very small and has stronger material where your feet go for sleeping with boots on. Interestingly I have the Travelpak Extreme too but don't use it much; it packs down bigger than the softie 3 and carrying it as well as my softie jacket is overkill for most of the year.

For both though I'd say the temp ratings are about right with a few thin layers on, a bivvi bag will help a lot too.

Mine doesn't have a mozzie net, the snugpak jungle bag is the only one that does I think

Highlander aren't generally regarded as being in the same league as snugpak, but that doesn't mean that the bag isn't good.
I've used softie 6, 9 and 12s and like them all. Still have a 9 and a 12.
