Looking to perform an upgrade soon from my Giant XTC29 to something a bit quicker/lighter and looking for ideas…

    I want,
    29er
    Light
    XC geometry

Ideally Shimano groupset and DEFO not Avids.

    apart from that… i’m open to ideas….

Are you up for a self-build rather than complete bike?

Lurcher/Chinese carbon frame (former more expensive, theoretically better after sales), some SIDs, Hope Hoops, XT groupset from Germany, smattering of your chosen finishing kit. Done.

It’s not everyones cup of tea but my Scandal was built up for under £2k. It’s quick, light and was more than good enough for the Kielder 100.

I can do the self build sure, but in a lot of ways i’d prefer the simplicity of buying a full bike.

Second a Scandal. Great frame and lasted the test of time as a racing 29er.

    Hi,
What size is the XTC you currently have.Sorry to butt in but am considering one of these myself and am deciding between sizes.Oh and how tall are you? If your looking at racing XC maybe a Trek Superfly or Giant XTC Advanced SL,real bling!
    Thanx

    Turner,

I’m 6’0 and like my bikes a little small, my Giant is a medium.

I must admit, the Canyons seems nice indeed.

    I’ve been looking at this

Scott Scale expert carbon, 10.7Kg is nice, also a nice price…

    I rekon that’s giving my Giant nearly 2.0 kg…..

    DEFO not Avids.

    I’ve been looking at this

Front Brake Avid Elixir 5S, 180/F mm HS1 Rotor
Rear Brake Avid Elixir 5S, 160/R mm HS1 Rotor
    Brake Levers Avid Elixir 5S

I know i know… but the brakes are an ‘interchangeable’ item in a lot of ways… So as ‘d see the Avids as a short term but the overall bike is ticking a lot of boxes for me.

    Then why mention it?

Edit: I do agree though, and that Scott looks fast…

I’d like a bike i could buy, ride and enjoy without worrying about changing things before even buying it.

But doens’t necessarily rule something out if it ticks all the boxes other than that.

Nice frames the Scotts, but you could spend that on your Giant and save more weight, if that’s the objective?

That would essentially be the objective yes. Less weight theoretcially = quicker… I know that’s not always correct in the real world.

Part of me just wants a new bike lol… but i have no issues with the Giant, other than it being heavier than some other 29ers i can purchase.
