Looking for 2 sets of cheap tyres for bikes I’m building for my dad and my daughter. Thinking of wire bead Conty Mtn Kings (or Mtn King front/ Speed King rear) from CRC at about £13 each or perhaps Maxxis Tomahawk pair (see link) from Merlin. Just need general use tyre, mix fireroad and easy off-road. I’ve used Mtn Kings and liked them but have no experience of Maxxis.

    Any thoughts?

For a cheap all round tyre, I would go for the Panaracer Fire XCs. They seem to cover pretty much all conditions well and they last for ages. JEJames has them cheap at the mo:

Maxxis are generally great, though I’ve not used Tomahawks. As all rounders, High Rollers are almost unbeatable, and probably available cheaper than the Tomos. ADvantage and Ignitors are also worth a look.
