Which 20mm hub? On-one, Superstar, Hope, No Tubes ZTR, etc .. ?

I've recently got a fork with a 20mm axle and so I need a compatible hub
Just looking for reccomendations, experiences or whatever

I've currently got an XT 6-bolt QR front hub (M756), if (m)any might let me use the same spokes that would be a bonus

I've come across and IIRC:

On-one 456 20mm/9mm thru bolt hub (9mm thru bolt included) - £20, 285g though, (possibility my spokes might fit going by comments on page on on-one
Shimano SLX 20mm, £30ish? 236g, - would be stuck with one axle standard and the oversize cup/cone tools are pricey?
Superstar Switch Evo 20mm - 196g?, £37
Hope Pro II 20mm - 180g, £54 - comes with draggy bearings?
No Tubes ZTR Heavy Duty 20mm - 174g - £55 - apart from price I like the look of this, so maybe wouldn't want to spend anymore than this, not that I really want to spend £55 ..

I got a whole wheel built onto a joytech hub for £30, no idea what it weights but it's no heavier than the hope XC hub it replaced and takes properly big bearings not some fiddly little ones. Anoyingly some replacement bearings from SKF cost me more than the wheel, but will probably outlast it.

Hope pro 2

Never had any trouble with them and they are bomb proof.

Also you are buying British and if it does break etc you can get them to sort it out.

I think they are worth the extra cash.

I have the earlier superstar fron hub with adpators - I swap between 20mm (maxle reba) and QR (On-One carbon rigid).

Nice finish to it, nice feel and runs well. Only pain in the arse is you have to remove the 6bolt rotor to swap the adaptors over.

I would add the dmr revolver to your list: light and nicely finished.

I would take the shimano ones off your list: I have junked a couple (and i never throw anything away!) as bearing life/sealing is not on a par with 'normal' shimano hubs, the 28mm cone spanner is expensive and they are much harder to keep running right than loose ball qr hubs.

Any idea how light? Which side of 200g? I can't find a claimed weight

I seem to (think I) remember reading something saying Hope Pro II's had draggy bearings from new?
For £1 more (6g less) I'm leaning toward a No Tubes ZTR if I'm to spend as much as that

Anyone used the Onone 456 hub? £20osh is very temting, having a heavier hub rather than lighter is offputting though

If I were you i'd buy one of these DT SWISS FR

with some of these 20mm ADAPTERS

At 190g by far the best at this price.

The 456 hub is fine as long as you grease the bearings before your first ride on it. One of mine seized last week after it's first outing. Checked both the bearings (6904 2RS) and one was dry and the other had a trace of something oily! Works fine with the new bearings. It is a bit weighty tho, I wish I had bought one of the older 20mm SSC ones as the QR one I have is running very well and light too. Pro2 worth the extra, just because you are buying British.

Hmm, the cost of the adapters pushes the price of the DT over all the others mentioned above

Struggling to find dimensions for wheelbuilding on the No Tubes ZTR atm, if I could get away with using the same spokes, It might cost comparibly to the superstar

mmm, i weighed mine before i built it into a wheel, laughed because it was a little bit less than the claimed weight of a pro2, and have long since forgotten exactly what it was. Bearings were not at all draggy out of the box fwiw.

Pro 2 has better/best resale value, mind...

With an rrp of £120 and a price difference of just £6 inc adapters over Hope Pro 2, I know which one I would go for.

But then again I am a big DT SWISS fan, i've been running 440 FR / 5.1 for the last 4 years with the same bearings freehub etc etc and no issues.

Oh and I bought the hubs 2nd hand as a Magura FR Wheelset.

With all due respect to Hope and even CK, they make fine products but my DT hubs have been flawless.
