What is the Peak District really called?
Ok if I were coming up here I would tend to go for Castleton if you like touristy stuff, nice but a bit twee. Lots of pubs, touristy shops full of Blue John and some tat shops, couple of outdoor clothing shops up in the square, you also have Peveril Castle and the caverns.
Hathersage, if you like things a bit more outdoor sports related at the weekend it does get busy and is a honeypot for gear shops - some good eateries.
Hope is smaller and has fewer shops, couple of nice pubs but has Eighteen if you want to drool over nice bits of bike engineering. Also has the Woodbine cafe which gets polarised reviews.
There are other villages but these three are all in the Hope Valley, and there's lots more to the Peak District National Park than the Valley of No Hope.
