We used to stay in a little campsite, it had a few self catering chalets as well. Great place, has a bar and a cracking pizzeria as part of it.

    cheap also

Used to stay in some of the smaller villages further up the valley towards Courmayeur… admittedly, not so good for Pila

ETA – Morgex, Pre St Didier, IIRC

Hotel Milleluci was good – it’s been 10 years since I stayed there though!

We camped last summer, but think I’d opt for looking for somewhere to rent in the town. That way you can ride to the lift (though the car park is free) and enjoy many of the cafe’s for a beer on the way back. We had a 15 min drive every time we wanted to get to the town. Fine as we were doing it on a budget, but if you have the choice, could be avoided.

just come back from there if camping avoid the nearest campsite to the lift in town…its more gypsy site than campsite, we stayed there one night and then moved onto the one Rudiboy recommended above – bit further from town but more secure

Hotel Etoile De Neige always seems to get good reviews. It’s at the top of the main lift.

Stayed in a campsite that appeared to be inbetween two rivers. Loads of flying insects and fairly rudimentary in terms of facilities.

Also the owner/concierge only had 1 arm 😯
