Having a sort out of some my my old man’s stuff and have found a bag with lots of old golf clubs in (and some weird and wonderful balls) Persimmon woods, hickory shafts etc..

Is there anywhere good to sell them?

eBay, but they’re unlikely to be worth much. They have no practical use as they are so inferior to modern equipment and there really isn’t much nostalgia e.g. like you see for old bicycles.

However, someone may want them if they are in really good condition and are a particularly notable brand/model of club.

Do you have any local friends who could take a look and see if anything is worth much ? As above old golf equipment is far inferior to modern stuff. You could see if the local club/range wants anything as a donation but I suspect probably not.

Mate of mine buys and sells golf clubs on eBay for a living, I can put you in touch, but like the others have said, there’s not much money in old gear unless it’s a very notable model that was a limited run at the time. Technology renders old models “worthless” faster than in the bike trade!

I’m sure I’ve seen somewhere that some people collect & play with them, the rigid singlespeeders of the golf world.

The golf industry pushes cavity backed club and other features down the publics throats which makes them think the old stuff is less good, but, in the case of irons at least, some of the best clubs made were the blades in the 70s and 80s.

Some of the new drivers are ridiculously easy to use compared to the old stuff maybe – when I first hit my mates Ping G9 it felt like cheating – the ball went a long way with a pros trajectory, only trouble was I hadn’t really hit it like a pro…

Mmmmm back in the day I had some lovely Tony Penna Persimmon woods, they just hit the ball beautifully.

I used them for my best ever round of 3 under. Them and a set of Slazenger Ben Hogan blades…. Ahhhh.

I could shoot a bad score with my redline Apex blades but still enjoyed the round because the feeling of the ball on the face of those clubs was so good.

(I meant a worse score than usual…)

If you can be arsed you could contact http://www.standrewsgolfco.com and see if any of the hickory shafted ones are worth a decent amount. I did this last summer and the clubs that weren’t rare etc I got £20 each for. Or they could maybe recommend a local option.
