Going to an exhibition at Olympia last weekend in March. As we’re then going on elsewhere, getting a train from home is not an option. Basically I’m looking to drive to “near” London via M3 and then train in. TFL website not a great help, any suggestions for a station/parking suitable?

    Big scary city time 😀

    TIA

You can drive all the way in if you don’t mind paying for the parking. Otherwise you can pick an underground station near end of the line and park around there in a residential street, generally you’ll have a 5-10 min walk as parking tends to be restricted near the stations. A halfway house would be to drive to Hammersmith and park in big car park there then tube the last bit. Driving into West London from M3 isn’t too bad outside rush hour.

Plenty of parking at Olympia itself, not hard to get to or heavily trafficed on the weekend, think it’s £25/day if prebooked which could be cheaper than train/tube if there’s a few of you. Parkatmyhouse.com usually throws up nearby spots cheaper than that too.

Or park at Westfield (£9 all day at the weekend) and it’s under a mile to walk from there, or a single stop on the train.

There’s nowhere particularly convenient to park and train in from that direction to Olympia – if you must then I guess Farnborough is convenient from the M3, has a train every hour that takes 25 mins to Clapham Junction (couple of others per hour that are a little slower) then frequent trains that take 10 mins to get you to Kensington Olympia. If you’re not going by yourself, then parking will be cheaper.

http://www.commutefrom.com/beta/ is good for showing how the various trains and tubes join up.

Thanks, their website said parking was poor but that would be our best option so we’ll give that a go.
