Some of the National trust cottages by the Ty Coch Inn, near Nefyn in North Wales. Unbeatable.

    The Sloop at Bantham
Anywhere around Bamburgh Castle apart from Seahouses (Which is a dump)
    Pembrokeshire, stunning.

Avoid west wales imho- had to drive miles for a bakery, lots of boarded up pubs. Tenby was okayish but I would imagine it gets a bit boisterous at night given the amount of cctv cameras in the town?

Never been, but the Gower Peninsula is supposed to be very nice.

You need somewhere with farm parks at that age – cute animals etc. From our own experience:

    Northumberland – awesome place
Dumfries and Galloway – just coincidence that it is near the Stanes
North Yorkshire – trains, beaches, York, farm parks and Dalby if you need an escape.

Our kids are now 7 and 4 and we still find a self catering farm cottage at Easter – lambing season – pretty much provides all the entertainment they need on the doorstep.

R_R if it helps I’ve found some very reasonable prices here >> owners direct website you can search by county/region, i’d have a look.

I’ve just booked a cottage in the Cotswolds for our hols in August.

Lleyn Peninsula seconded, however go all the way to the end. Gower is good too, but avoid the village north of Rhossilli as that may be chavvy / young surf dudey. About 3-4 hours driving.

Pembrokeshire around Tenby has loads of wet weather alternatives for kids but Tenby itself may be a bit chavvy, but its nice in the off season. Its at least 6 hours driving mind.

Elan valley is very nice or around the Berwyns, I’ve always headed North or South recently so a trip to mid Wales and around was good.
