I’ve been on google looking for cable sleeves, plastic sleeves to run over cables to protect the frame underneath. I’ve had them on bikes but cant find any for sale. and no i dont mean heli tape or the usual cable outers. These are a bit wider than the red plastic cable on a can of wd40… please somebody put me out of my misery.

I think you’re talking about fully sealed cables?

As far as I was aware the plastic is to prevent the ingress of water and dirt into the cable outer, used in frames that don’t allow for full outers.

But I have only seen these as part of a full new cable kit, not on their own.

Straw, it’s generally called, from your local LBS.
Or if you want to be more sophisticated look for silicone rig tubing from a sea fishing shop, which you can get in a variety of colours and doesn’t rattle like straw sometimes can.

I think I know what you mean but have only seen them in fully built bikes. In hi early, I have always removed them as they scratched my frame and rattled. This doesn’t help I know, sorry.

I remember the stuff, haven’t seen it for years though.

If you use the fishing tube, make sure you get the size right. 1.5mm will just fit on gear cables, 2mm is easier and 3mm for brake cables (from memory)
