Very near Golspie for riding, and Sutherland is a lovely area. Big on desolate views too.

Expensive now but simply stunning. I'm quite well travelled but there no-where else in the world that I have visited even comes close.
Despite my personal preference for the NW Highlands, I'd have to say Dumfries & Galloway is also worth consideration - I've only stayed down that way once or twice, but the deep countryside is like a miniature highlands in places, + you get the famous natural light which does need to be experienced.
Newton Stewart provided our base for a couple of nights; Kirroughtree just a couple of miles away & many other trail centres in easy reach. Refer to 7Stanes site here!

and Harris is great, if the weather is kind. When are you going? Also the heb celt fest in july is interesting though you'd prob want to stay in Stornoway for that (sometimes the line up can be a bit stale but rumors are it will be better this year)
We honeymooned in Harris in December. Got lucky with the weather. Just beautiful.

Definite thumbs up for the 3 Chimneys. Stayed there for 2 nights a couple of years ago. Food was great, relaxed atmosphere and really good accomodation - go for it you will not regret
If you are Thinking East Coast there are few hotels this far north to match this one.

If you want quiet and out of the way you would be hard pushed to beat Glenelg
and this place The Glenelg Inn
easy ferry access to the Isle of Skye.
I havent been on Skye much myself but I have heard there are some really nice hotels there.
I forgot to add, the very North coast - Bettyhill and Tongue have stunning beachs and Vistas if the weather is good. though if you want to eat - do it before 8pm or every where closes!

Blue reef cottage look amazing, but wow do you pay for the luxury. However, given that they appear to virtually fully booked for 2010 there clearly is a market.

We've stayed at http://www.lochanview.com a couple of times. In Kippford which has a couple of pubs for food and drink and handy for Mabie/Dalbeattie/Drumlanrig. It's got a hot tub too which was ace for relaxing after a day on the bike.
Hey, ART, Blue Reef looked sensational but we stayed on the campsite down the road overlooking Taransay, equally beautiful but not as luxurious!
