A bunch of friends are going to ride BPW in September. We’re wondering where to ride on the second day were there. Any sugggestions for the best single track we could score reasonably close to BPW?
Completely ignoring your requirements of singletrack – last time we went, we camped near Abergavenny and did Black Mountain Cycle Centre the next day – it was great fun. Rather than the intensity of getting as many runs in as possible at BPW, we lounged around in the sun in the parking field, chatting to folk, checking bikes out, drinking beer, BBQ’ing, “smoking” and chucking the odd run in when the feeling took us. It’s great fun and all rollable – and you can watch the rad boys giving it massive air too

When I head to BPW I usually tack on an uplift day at the Forest fo Dean the next day. Enough trail options to make it chilled or hardcore depending on how you are feeling.
I love the FOD, I could genuinely just ride flatland-sheepskull all day, never mind all the other stuff and enduro bits, I’ve only scratched the surface It’s a ridiculously small hill to do uplifts on but because the uplift is a public road you get back up to the top in a blink. I think on balance I prefer it to BPW, certainly every time I’ve been there it’s felt nicer. The short red is good too (not so sure about the long version, lots more pedalling for not a lot more smiles imo)
Or, if you want to go oldschool there’s Afan just over the hill.
