I can buy a single off the Paul Components site, but shipping is pretty high, so wondering who stocks them in the UK (if anyone)?? Google isn't being much help, SJS is the only one that comes up but that's only for road ones (and in pairs...)

Thanks for the tip Househusband, BLB do indeed stock Paul bits and they do have a single RH black Sram Mountain Thumbie arriving in a few days, perfect! 
I thought the Paul thing was an adapter for road bar end shifters? Do they do the shifters themselves too?
