Hoping to do it tomorrow. There's a big group and some will want to climb up on bikes and others will want to go up on the train - is it possible?
Is the ride signed? and it looks pretty ridiculously steep too - how is it for rideability?

what's the ride up Cairngorm like and does the funicular take bikes?

As I understand all you can do on the funicular is stand around a bit at the top and take it straight down again.
Walkers, bikers etc aren't able to use it as a short cut to getting to the top.Posted 1 year ago # -

No you cant. You cant even go up the train as a foot passenger unless you swear on the bible that you will come down on it. Safety apparently, to avoid numpties wandering off over the mountains.

Can't do the train. Why? Well that's a silly historical accident. Drive to the car park, ask them nicely (the more people that do the better I reckon). When they say no, you can't do better than follow the footpath up from behind the Bottom Station until you hit the Traverse at the end of the Zig-Zags. Keep on going until the Ptarmigan then take the track round the back (not the one with the poles) to the summit.
Loads of ways down - back the way you came, over into Sneachnda and down, down the Windy Ridge Path (a bit technical in places...), along the north ridge to the Ciste Car Park or all the way to Macdui and a huge mountain day out in all kinds of directions

You can't actually leave the 'viewpoint' if you take the train up - less H&S, more to do with keeping the masses off the hill.
Play in the forest instead.

Would it be safe to leave my bike at the bottom, though, while taking the train up and down the mountain as a foot passenger?
We're starting in Nethy Bridge and fancy cycling to the mountain and back (and not necessarily climbing the mountain on bikes).Posted 1 year ago #
