I was thinking about fitting a Deore LX crank to a road bike but can’t seem to find a chain ring bigger than 48 tooth for 4 bolt cranks.

Does anyone do them, I’m guessing I’d need a 50 at least not to spin out too drastically??

I use a 48 with a roadie cassette on my commuter mtb with slicks. Had my cross wheels on there a few weeks ago with slicks and wasn’t spinning out.But then again , I am shite…

Not sure about off the shelf, maybe from TA? Otherwise, look at Highpath Engineering who will custom make any chainring of any size. Not that cheap, but certainly cheaper than buying a new chainset!

Thanks Adam, will try Highpath. Was wondering why roadie chainsets are generally 5 bolt….is it a stiffness thing to do with larger rings or is it just no more than a different ‘standard’??
