Building up a 29er hybrid thingy for touring, commuting & the odd bit of bike packing but can’t decide over mechanical or hydro discs.

Hydro generally better power etc but prone to problems with road salt? and possible over heating on loaded alpine descents? Whereas mechanical discs are easier to fix & less of a problem if affected by corrosion or overheating?

Specifically got the choice between Shimano m775 or Avid BB5 brakeset.

Hydro all the way for me done fully loaded descents and general commuting duties on all sorts of shimano brakes. Not a single problem. Always ran with a 180 or 203 front rotor never had over heating prolems.
