I just got my company to buy a bike. They own it and I ride it to work everyday. They can claim back the VAT and can write it off against tax quite quickly. It's technically available for any of my colleagues to use but as it doesn't fit any of them or would kill them at the first hill that is not a problem. Employer is responsible for bike safety so I gave that role to myself.

What's the best "I got away with this" bike to work scheme story?

A friend owns the LBS and usually gives me 20% off
but looses 10% to CycleScheme so still gave me 10% offSo I ordered a Charge Plug to commute on but maxed the scheme out to £1000
and ordered Magura Durin forks then kept the rest on credit in the LBS for a few odds and ends over the next few months

My company does have Cycle to Work - but I'm registered as a full-time home-worker....What chance someone notices?

i could have spent a fortune on the bike to work scheme, as there was no limit on what i could spend. i went for a £700 winter road bike that i could use as a commuting bike as well, but what i really wanted was the £2.5k Trek. I was in sensible mode at the time *kicks herself.

Feels left out @ not shafting the system.
I have a Genesis Croix de Fer CX bike on the CycleScheme and I ride it to work! Not every day but enough to tire me out.
The wording about use on the CycleScheme site is very wooly as you would expect.
"You can use the bike however you like; a bike purchased under Cyclescheme should be used for work journeys at least 50% of the time. You don't have to cycle to work for a specified number of days throughout the year and you don't have to record your trips or mileage. You may not claim expenses for business trips made using the bike."However our work stated "The tax free status of the scheme requires an individual to use the cycle for commuting to work some or all of the time and for part or whole of the journey."
Which is fine by mePosted 3 years ago # -
