Funny how many on here can't read??
I don't think there can ever be a best album ever because there will always be a weak track.
My personal vote would be - Wish You Were Here or Achtung Baby.

Mr Woppit/Heathen Woods, you are indeed gentlemen of taste.
Believe Fantasy Shift is now available on CD & Here & Now are touring again, with Steffi Sharpstrings back on guitar.
Might finally, after shouting ourselves hoarse for it at every one of their gigs we ever went to, get 'Telly Song' played live
Seen many, many good live bands, but none come within a mile of Here & Now.

I'd rate Gong pretty highly too and -fzzzkt!- I missed them in Sheffield on Monday as I thought they were touring *next* month. Doh and double doh! Still, I have a workmate who's seeing them in Brighton on Sunday and he's said he'll tell me how good they are. Which is thoughtful of him...
Marchin Already - Ocean Colour Scene
or
Stone Roses - Stone Roses
or
Dig Out Your Soul - Oasis (yes, thats not a typo)
or
Guide to Better Living - Grinspoon (f*cking brilliant)
or
can't remember the name of the album - The Zutons
Easiest question in a long time

End of thread.
dont listen to it much these days, but its still the best album ever.
Some good stuff here, some plagiaristic outrages too mind you (like Oasis for one...)
Just amazed that no-one's mentioned Guns N Roses... "Appetite For Destruction" is an awesome album, whether you're a metalhead or a normal human being

You're 14, right?
If "best" means what I think it means here (i.e. "a favourite album that I think lots of other people like too") then it's gotta be another vote for Endtroducing by DJ Shadow.
de-loused in the comatorium - mars volta
im a **** machine when listening to that.
What no oasis!?!
Just kidding, they're sh1t
I,ll have metallica's 'master of puppets' please
I keep coming back to this thread without putting anything up, 'cos it's such a subjective thing. I honestly don't think there can be an 'all-time best' album, because tastes change, and it comes back to personal all-time best.
So, for whatever it may be worth, in no particular order, mine would be:
Dark Side Of The Moon
Court Of The Crimson King
Bridge Over Troubled Water
The Hissing Of Summer Lawns
Shawn Colvin Fat City
Kris Delmhorst Song ForA Hurricane
Dummy
Arcade Fire Funeral
Close To The Edge
Joshua Tree
There's something about each of these recordings that has a deep personal resonance, and that for me makes them great.
reek of putrefaction- carcass
still a mentally heavy album after all these years
embedded- meathookseed
Axis of Evil - Suicide commando
NIN- pretty hate machine 1 good song, lots of fillers and too much hype. and they were poo live in the early 90's.
Ocean Colour Scene ( Anthalogy)Cause I've just listened to it.
Fun House - Stooges
Fun House - Stooges
Is he trying to be like Jim Morrison (Doors)
I believe he was a fan.
It's an awful long time since I listened to the Doors, though.

My best albums ever list this week would be
Hawkwind Space Ritual
Sunn O))) Monoliths and Dimensions
Mars Volta Frances The Mute
Alabama 3 La Peste
Bass Communion Ghosts on Magnetic Tape
Neil Young Freedom
Stevie Ray Vaughan The Sky Is Crying
Rush A Farewell To Kings
Muse Origin of Symmetry
At The Drive In Relationship of Command
ABBA

The rest are shite!
NOW 74
Sketches of Spain, Miles Davis
Bod Dylan, Desire
Bruce Springsteen, Darkness on the edge of town
Bit eclectic
That's The Carpenters. There were two of them.
..and they made the most bland music of all time, so cannot in any way be considered "greatest". Unless being dead makes you great.
