What's that cycle path next to the A9 in Scotland all about then?

Hi All,

I had to go to Inverness the other day and for the first time I got to drive the A9 in Daylight, Wow! Just lovely! It was pure torture not to turn off and ride Laggan or Fort Bill, but unfortunately I was working Next time though, I'll be taking the bike with me for sure, but where does that cycle path go and is it worth riding for fun? Or is it part of some north/south off road route? I saw a few people on loaded-up tourers, and some big Ol' diggers on the trail and I wondered what the deal was.

Its the sustrans route following the a9. Useful for connecting bits of track up but thats about it. A mix of bits of the old A9 and purpose built cyclepath

I guess you mean the bit at Drumochter. As TJ says, that's all part of the Sustrans route. The rest of it tends to go through the towns and villages now bypassed by the modern trunk road.

Went down to ACDC at hampden this week - that track was busy as were the A96 and A939 and B9007! Dunno if it was the Olympics or the good weather but I have never seen so many ghey raodie shi-ites or cyclists in general (in this country). I believe the route is the Sustrans route 7.

Try riding Drummochter bit on a roadbike with skinny hard tyres - it's a bit rough! Other bits further north tarmacked (sp?) much nicer.
