I’m running the ss rigid now, so fancy something a bit bigger and gripper than the saguro.
My chums all ride a chunky monkey, but the thing weighs as much as four fat men, so I’m after sitting large carcus, grippy, and light…for xc racing..

    Suggestions please!!

Sadly I think you’re going to struggle, I had the same spec as you but couldn’t find anything under 800g (29er) that had anywhere near as much grip and volume

I doubt either are quite as grippy, but should be lighter.

Have you looked at plus rubber? For a little bit more weight you could go 29+ and have all the grip and cush you need, easy enough to loose the weight elsewhere. Failing that kenda usually have massive tyre carcass, the honey badger was way bigger than other 2.2’s and some other companies 2.4’s

Will try the bonty.. Not keen on new rims etc just to try 29+…

    Maybe next bike!

Isn’t an Ardent just about the same tyre but lighter? Between 750 and 850g if it’s makes a difference. I’ve got both and the Ardent definitely ‘feels’ lighter. Also running singlespeed rigid.

xr4 is good the Ardent have poor edge grip when lent over IMO.

The old Bontrager wet 2.3 was also good I still use these on the back for their progressive slip.

Phish Food tends to be a bit lighter than Chunky Monkey, IMO.
