Thinking of selling my '09 Anthem Advanced frame & wondered what general opinion is about its value.
2009 Anthem Advanced 1 frame, upgraded rear shock to RP23, only used as a best bike, not ridden in the winter at all.
Very clean with a few minor scuffs in the topcoat.
RRP on frame only was £2250, complete standard bike £3000 with an RP2.
    So, what's it worth??

IMO – you had better sit down.

Very general rule of thumb is 1/2 RRP plus a little bit each year.
My guess is £550…..why so low? This is a lot of money, no warranty, I doubt very much that you paid anyway near RRP, being a bike mechanic.

Wally, 1/2 + a bit? SO where does £550 come from with a £2000+ frameset?
What has what I paid for it got to do with general resale value anyway?

I don't think Wally's too far wide of the mark.

The alu frames go for £300ish secondhand, so maybe double that.

Depends on finding the right buyer though. People are more interested in the Anthem X now and the carbon frames weren't hugely lighter than the alu ones if memory serves.

I think Wally meant half RRP minus a little each year btw.

It is 'sobering' to discover that you'll be pushed to give away your 'old' 3k+ machine 😯

In some ways Carbon is more difficult to sell second hand than steel or alu – people are far more nervous about 'damage' as it's still perceived as new.

It is difficult – Inbreds etc seem to hold their value (relative to whatever the current on-one price is) far better than top end stuff which as above seems to lose half it's value as soon as you get it out the shop and then drops off fairly dramatically for the first few years.

Yeah, I was going to say people probably view carbon as a bit of a gamble secondhand.

Well any secondhand bike frame is a bit of a gamble, but the stakes are higher with carbon.

    Don;t take it personally mate.
