  • What's hot in the world of sleeping bags?

    Evening…
All my sleeping bags have had it except for summer use. I would like to replace my 3+ season vango (which is about 20 years old) with something light, water resistant and warm enough for British winters out on the moors… What’s out there apart from the ME lamina? Budget around 150-200 quid… Cheers

    I’d check out Cumulus.

Montane Prism gets good reviews, seems ideal for UK bivvying. Comfort limit is 0 mind, so might not be quite warm enough for what you want.

These are about the best in my eyes, I use the Mammut Montana but also look at this Rab Ignition 3
The Mammut seems a lot thicker/insulated than the same graded Vango bags and tests are more up to date

The mammut Jura 3-4 is a really good bag and got one too replace my old rab that was getting on and well past it after 3 years hard use. Its not heavy packs up small and is bloody warm and last month I was on Jura out in that mental storm and I was toasty 😉 and for £100 much better value than the rab ones

Boriselbrus… How does it do in the cold? Have been looking at that one but can’t find many reviews…

Well I’ve not had the chance to test it properly yet, but at 4′ it was comfortably warm. It also packs down pretty small and light.

It’s nowhere near as warm as my down filled Rab but it is smaller, lighter and will work better when in a wet bivvy.

I’m off to do some solo stuff in February in the dark peak, as well as some biviing in the summer, so trying to cover all bases with one bag. Will have a look at it when I’m in go outdoors next. Cheers

Daftvader, what did you end up buying? I’m currently looking for something similar – can’t decide between a Rab Ignition 3, a Mountain Hardwear Lamina 20, or maybe a warmer bag as I’m not too bothered about an extra 300 grams…

I ended up with a mountain hardware ratio 15… It’s not precisely what I was after but being slightly larger of shoulders I need a bit of room… Plus it was a great price. linky

Thanks – looks like a good buy. I’m definitely going for synthetic though, so not for me.

I would have got synthetic but this has the down shield so figured it should be good inside a tent. If I was biviing in winter or autumn then I would likely have got the lamina….
